Sustainability Report 2025 published: a year of progress, and the work that defines the next phase

Beckers today publishes its 2025 Performance Report, the company's most comprehensive sustainability publication to date and the first report created as part of the company’s transition toward the European Sustainability Reporting Standards (ESRS) under the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD).

The report sets out the year's results across all four pillars of the Green Lights Strategy – People with Impact, Products with Impact, Operations with Impact, and Business with Impact – alongside the systems and partnerships that turn strategy into delivery.

The headlines

The 2025 results include several substantial milestones. In March, Beckers became one of the first companies in the coil coatings industry to have both near-term and net-zero climate targets validated by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi), providing an externally verified roadmap for reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in Scopes 1, 2 and 3.

Renewable energy use across Beckers operations reached 76 percent in 2025, ahead of the trajectory toward the company's 2030 target.

Sales of products in the Achiever class of the Beckers Sustainability Index (BSI) continued to grow as a share of the portfolio, in a year when the BSI's classification criteria were updated to keep pace with evolving regulation and scientific consensus.

Investment in sites, safety, and innovation reached the highest level in Beckers' history, reflecting a long-term capital commitment maintained through a year of significant geopolitical and trade volatility.

The report also documents progress across employee engagement (a 93 percent participation rate in the global engagement survey), the rollout of SPARK (an extensive health and safety program), the inauguration of a new R&D center in Shanghai, and continued advances in renewable-carbon technologies and UV/EB capabilities.

The questions the report takes seriously

Alongside the year's progress, the 2025 report highlights the areas where the work is more challenging.

Workplace safety remains a focus that requires sustained leadership attention rather than a single intervention; the report describes both the SPARK program's design and the recognition that culture change is the longer task. Gender representation across operations and leadership is moving in the right direction but at a pace the company is honest about wanting to accelerate.

While progress on Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions continues, the larger share of Beckers' footprint lies s in Scope 3 – greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions across the value chain that depend on supplier readiness, customer adoption, and the development of broader market signals for low-carbon solutions.

The report addresses these challenges with the same level of specificity as the achievements, in line with the disclosure expectations of CSRD and ESRS.

What comes next

The 2025 report marks the point at which Scope 3 becomes the defining focus for the next phase of Beckers' climate work. The transition from emissions Beckers controls directly to emissions that depend on collaboration across the value chain is the structural shift the company will navigate over the coming years.
