Beckry®Vista brings the future into view

Beckers has launched a new tool that can render ‘in a real way’ something that does not yet exist, helping customers and teams visualize how Beckers products will actually look and behave in specific environments.

Beckry®Vista uses a mix of environmental and product data to create a digital rendering that matches physical reality in a way that has never previously been achieved in the paint industry. Until now, simulations have only displayed how a coating might look in generic sunlight or under a standard D65 interior light.

‘Existing tools get close, but it’s an approximation, it’s not real,’ says Virginie Vurpillot, the project leader. ‘The difference here is that the calculations are based on the actual shades, textures and properties of the materials you’re looking at. It’s not generic.’

The software was developed by a French company, who Beckers began working with in 2016. This is the first time the technology has been applied to the industrial paint market.

To create the simulation, a physical sample is measured and characterized in terms of color, texture and effect. This data is then fed into a configurator, which becomes increasingly sophisticated as more projects and more paint systems are added.

Users will be able to switch the lighting and perspective, try out different shades and finishes, and compare outcomes in a single view.

Beckry®Vista applies a technology that was previously only used in the glass industry”, adds Christophe Perin, VP Coil Coating South Europe. “For the Coil Coating and Industrial Coating industries, Beckers will be the first and only paint supplier offering digital rendering abilities that are creating cutting-edge opportunities to serve our clients in new ways, further distinguishing Beckers from our competition.”

Virginie Vurpillot points out that as well as demonstrating Beckers’ know-how, the tool brings customers into the decision-making process at critical stages: ‘In the context of specific projects, the tool will help customers target which paints apply well to the project and which don’t, without having to conduct a line trial. Every configuration is a collaboration. The customer is absolutely involved and part of the process.’

Christophe Perin adds: “By enabling end users to visualize the real aspect of our products under various lighting conditions and visualization angles, the tool supports and benefits the sales teams of our customers and stakeholders further down the value chain by showing the value of pre or post-painting materials in an intuitive way.”

The move to develop digital solutions such as Beckry®Vista is a key part of the Beckers sustainability journey, eliminating waste associated with conventional physical testing as well as enabling customers to make better informed and more targeted decisions.

Looking ahead, future iterations could include renderings based on samples that have been exposed to UV, water or long-term weather conditions, bringing considerations of durability and sustainable design into focus.
