General Counsel (m/f/d) Fixed Term Parental Leave Cover - Berlin

We are looking for a proactive, solution oriented and experienced professional with a law degree and commercial legal experience gained in an international law firm and/or in-house legal team within a multi-national business.

The successful candidate will replace our General Counsel for a fixed term of parental leave of up to twelve months, ideally commencing on 1 February 2020. During this time, the candidate will play a key role in the headquarters of the Group. The successful candidate will act as an advisor to the Executive General Management Team and will support functional teams throughout the business for matters that require legal expertise and they will also liaise with the Group’s Holding Company, Lindéngruppen and its Chief Legal Officer for all common legal matters.

 
What you will do:

You will step in and lead the Legal Function of Beckers Group for a fixed term. You will provide legal support to Beckers’ executive general management and functional teams within the Group by delivering legal advice and guidance regarding a wide range of legal and compliance related topics. The role will include:

  • Drafting and reviewing various contracts in different jurisdictions, including distribution contracts, joint development contracts and supply contracts with both customers and suppliers to ensure that Beckers’ interests are protected
  • Leading Beckers’ Compliance Management Program alongside the CFO and Compliance Officer
  • Advising on the interpretation and compliance with the Group’s internal compliance policies, including the Code of Conduct and Competition Law Compliance Policy
  • Managing the Group’s master insurance program together with our global broker
  • Guiding the strategy for major claims and litigations and liaising with our insurers and external lawyers to ensure Beckers’ interests are protected
  • Participating in cross-functional project teams throughout the Group relating to new business opportunities and tenders and providing or procuring legal support from inception to completion
  • Guiding the legal strategy with respect to key contracts with distribution partner and key suppliers
  • Supporting and updating our holding company, Lindéngruppen with respect to common legal matters and the renewal of trademarks
  • Leading the Group’s ongoing efforts under our data protection compliance program
  • Liaising with and maintaining our local network of partner law firms globally
  • Be a leader throughout Beckers – speak up, exert influence to create positive change

 
Who you will work with:
  • You will be based at our global headquarters located at a prime location in Berlin Charlottenburg
  • You will report to the CFO and support functional teams throughout our business including Sales, Research and Development, Procurement, Finance, IT, HR and our Executive General Management Team
  • The team at the headquarters is highly diverse; it consists of 8 nationalities and reflects the international environment and mind-set of Beckers Group


 
Your knowledge and skills:
  • Minimum educational qualification of a Master degree in Law or equivalent education
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in commercial law gained in a law firm and/or in-house legal team
  • Significant commercial experience in a global or multi-national business
  • Competence and demonstrated experience in handling legal matters typically facing a decentralised and mid-sized international company
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong legal drafting and negotiation skills
  • Ability to perform under pressure and deliver on-time
  • Fluency in English is essential (native or very good level of written and spoken Business English). Additional languages would be a plus
